I love the lighting in this photo and the way it sets the mood. I also really like the girl's pose; she looks so carefree. There seems to be a nice counterbalance between the girl and the sun peeking over the building. Again, I really like the light in this photo and how warm it is. The subject's face is also interesting, and he looks very content. I also like the contrast between the warmer left half of the photo and the more stark, industrial right half. Every time I look at this photo, I think that the girl's face and pose resemble a renaissance painting. That, contrasted with her ostrich hat and the random pile of bananas next to her, is the main reason I like this one. This was taken when I was intentionally focusing on playing with light in my photos, and though it's not the most interesting composition-wise, I really like the way the candlelight illuminates her face. Final exams are a majorly stressful time for every college student. Long days and late nights studying are a given, but there is so much more than just studying for exams that students do and focus on. Eat college and university has a culture to finals week, unique to them. In this photoessay, I explore the culture of finals at UMD specifically, while also including more universal experiences. Freshman Architecture major Hannah Brayshaw has final projects for one one of her architecture classes in lieu of a final exam. She sits in the fifth floor lounge of Ellicott Hall to work on her project. Several hours into her project, Brayshaw references her sketches to work on the model she has to build. The Diamondback, the University of Maryland's independent student newspaper, on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. The newsroom is housed in a small — and often chilly — cinderblock office above the South Campus Dining Hall. Former editor in chief Ryan Romano finishes his work while Angela Roberts, an assistant news editor, and Jordan Katz, the social media editor, take a break to play catch with Diamondbread, a stuffed bread slice that has become the paper's mascot. Before the beginning of the newsroom shift each day, the editors hold a meeting to discuss the stories published from the night before and what's on the budget for the day. Here, assistant managing editor Anastasia Marks and assistant sports editor Ben Cooper prepare for the work ahead. At the University of Maryland, studying and homework can easily take up the time of students on campus. In my final project I look at what a students life looks like during the day when their not busy doing school work. Deshawn Perr, a student at the University of Maryland, likes to spend his time in between classes skateboarding. He showed off with a trick that he has been practicing for a while. His positioning of his hands here helps him to balance on the board before jumping into the air. Daniela Morgan, a communications major, eats at South Campus Dining Hall in her spare time before an advising meeting. The reality for most students on campus is due to their busy schedules whenever they have free time, they eat. Ted Sauerland, takes time out of his day to hand out reusable straws on campus.
