Welcome to Centreville 7- Jenna Cohen Final Project

Welcome to Centreville 7

Welcome to the the 7th floor of Centreville Hall. Located just west of the UMD Campus Farm, Centreville houses over 500 residents each year. I was able to spend my freshman year with eight of those residents, who eventually became my closest friends at Maryland. Let's meet them.

Meet the ladies of Centreville 7. From left to right, we have Marie Panday, Alli Thoen, Mia Sampson, Izzy Maizes, Niya Pattasseril, Meigan Niu, Mariam Hashem, and Sarah Mitko. Eight different girls with eight different stories that all converged in August 2018.

Our first pair of roommates are Alli and Meigan. They found each other on Facebook, and after a brief introduction,  they agreed to room together. Alli and Meigan have a goofy yet loving relationship and I love seeing these two both incredibly bright, hard working, girls interact, goof around, eat, and spend time with our group.

Alli, originally from Rochester, NY, has beautiful dedication to everything she is involved in, especially to our friend group. Although she is one of the quieter girls in our group, Alli never hid her quirks from the group. Whether she is eating steam flowing from the diffuser or eating a plate of beige food, Alli is always unapologetically herself.

Meet our country girl, Meigan Niu. With roots in Bowling Green, KY, I always know she's close when I hear "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" playing. From the moment I met her, Meigan always entertained the group with her worries, which she is always able to smile and laugh off, which is a quality I deeply admire.

Welcome to "The Triple," a set of three random roommates-turned best friends. The Triple was always a big hangout spot for our friend group, whether it be take-out food picnics or watching The Bachelor, everyone felt like they had a home in Niya, Sarah, and Marie's.

First member of the triple is Marie Panday. Originally from Baltimore County, MD, this vegan animal lover never fails to make me smile. Although majoring in environmental sciences, Marie has several artistic passions I always appreciated, such as filmmaking, makeup, and photography. Marie is always there when I need to vent, a makeup palette to borrow, or a buddy to nap with.

Sarah has always been one of my role models throughout this year. Despite being far away from her family in Denver, where she grew up, and Japan, she works incredibly hard in all aspects of her life, especially school. I know Sarah's dedication is truly going to change the world one day... probably when she's our president.

Niya is the last member of the triple, and was also the last out of the eight girls that I met. However, something about Niya always felt familiar to me, like I had known her forever as soon as we started talking. She is always willing to help any of us with relationship problems, school struggles, or when we just need to get out and have a little fun.

Despite The Triple being the largest room in our group, we definitely spend the most time in Mariam and Izzy's. These two met through a mutual friend and decided to room together, and are a living example of opposites attract. Their room acted as our living room throughout the whole year, for no particular reason other than they both made it feel like home.

Izzy Maizes is an LA baby, always looking to take new adventures with the group. Izzy jokingly nicknamed us all her "fiends"  because the group loves tasting all the food she brings to the dorm. However, I can assure you that Izzy Maizes is the proud queen of the Centreville fiends, and will continue to be when she makes us all food in her apartment next semester.

Mariam Hashem, originally from Potomac, MD, is one of a kind. Never one to miss an opportunity to make a witty comeback, she will always keep you on your toes, and nagging you is her way of reminding you how much she cares. Pictured is a classic Mariam look, complete with her hoodie, AirPods, stuffed Eeyore, seltzer, and JFK socks. She has a passion for politics, history, and of course, BuzzFeed quizzes. I am forever grateful that I befriended Mariam this year, I truly can't imagine my life without her.
Welcome to 7218 Centreville, aka mine and Mia's room. Mia and I met on facebook, and decided to room together soon after. 7218 has been home to many "Shallow" sing-offs, movie marathons, and late night snacking. I'm so grateful to have had such an amazing roommate to laugh with, cry with, and of course, dance with.

Mia Sampson defines work hard, play hard. Originally from Boxford, MA, Mia is one of the friendliest people I have ever met, and always has the best of intentions in every situation. She was the first friend I made at UMD, and I'm so glad we went from roommates, to friends, to sorority sisters.
Living in Centreville and meeting my best friends truly allowed me to grow into a better version of myself. We started off as friends based on proximity, but truly grew to love each other as the year continued. Each and every one of these girls has touched my life and made my first year in college one of growth, learning, and love.

To honor our friend group and our first year being nearly complete, we decided to hold a paper plate awards ceremony. Each person wrote a suggestion for everyone, and then we voted on all of the options.

Paper Plate Award Results: Sarah- Most likely to dip out of this country and never talk to us again; Meigan- Naked Cowboy Award; Mia- F****** Alcohol Tank; Niya- Most likely to show up in a bathing suit the morning after; Marie- The Always Sleeping Award; Jenna- Most likely to marry an "Adam"; Alli- The "I don't like the texture award"; Mariam- Most likely to be high taking finals; Izzy- Most likely to make a strange noise (Not Pictured)

To the ladies of Centreville 7, thank you for an unforgettable freshman year experience. There is no one else I would have rather spent the past nine months with. Until next year.
