Atop the Big Ten standings, the Michigan Wolverines look to keep their win streak alive against the Maryland Terrapins on a beautiful Friday evening ahead of their three-game weekend series.
The voice of Maryland baseball, Matt Noble, 59, of Selbyville, Delaware, announces the starting lineups for the game. Noble is in his ninth year as a PA announcer for the university, where he also announces football and women's and men's basketball.
If you got to Game 1 early enough, you could have snagged the Ric Flair themed Testudo T-shirt. Aysha Asmeth, a graduate student majoring in telecommunications, ran the merchandise table during the game.
Several UMD teachers were rewarded the Most Valuable Teacher award prior to Friday's game. Sociology professor Brian Connor was on the field receiving the award while his wife, Vilay Senthep, 35, and their 13 month old baby boy Julian watched in the stands.
Senior pitcher Hunter Parsons kicks off the weekend series with a four-seamer. Last season Parsons had a 3.44 ERA in 89 innings, going 5-2 and limiting opposing batters to a .225 batting average.
Old Town Road by Lil Nas X is what senior leadoff hitter AJ Lee chose as his 2019 walk-up song. Schools like UMD give their players the freedom to choose a song to walk to the plate to, much like MLB superstars at their home stadiums.
Freshman utility player Maxwell Costes swings and misses early in Friday's game. The Baltimore native is having a tremendous freshman season, pacing the team in home runs.
Friday's game was seven-year-old Cason Specht's first Michigan baseball game and he had quite a bucket list. His father Corey, 43, of La Plata, raised Corey as a Michigan fan just as he was.
Some fans choose to tailgate right outside the stadium such as these Maryland faithful. Just as this picture was taken, a foul ball landed inches away for the young fan to collect.
Michigan senior infielder Jimmy Kerr holds junior outfield Caleb Walls on first base as Maryland attempts to make a comeback. After losing Game 1 the day before, the Terps hope to even up the weekend series following Walls's single in the 8th inning.
Hoping to salvage the game, freshman infielder Benjamin Cowles celebrates with Walls after crushing a home run to left center field in the bottom of the ninth.
Michigan celebrates a 10-4 victory over Maryland, capturing the weekend series in the process.
Despite the loss, head coach Rob Vaughn talks with his team in hopes of rallying the group ahead of their series finale Sunday afternoon.
Even after the loss, junior outfielder Ben Irvine finds time to play with a fan.
Behind the scenes following Saturday's game, a grounds crew worker rakes the pitchers mound to get rid of the divots where the pitcher plants his foot.
After dropping Game 3 on a rain-filled Sunday afternoon, Maryland baseball hopes to turn their season around as they round out Big Ten play. The Terps will return to Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on May 16, when they open a three-game series against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
