Week 8 - Rina Torchinsky

Compass Coffee is a D.C. - based coffee shop founded by two Marines. For the founders, coffee started out as a means for them to power through training, but it morphed into a morning ritual.
Though the surrounding Gallery Place area is relatively quiet, a bustling crowd exists behind the glass doors of the eatery around 10 a.m. Monday.
The cafe got its namesake from the compass' functions, which includes pointing one in the right direction. The founders believe that their coffee should do the same.

Barista Katherine Burns, 25, dumps fresh beans into the coffee grinder. The establishment serves up nine different blends, which are imported from countries across the globe, including Guatemala and Indonesia.

Barista Olivia Cantello, 22, squirts caramel into a to-go cup. Cantello's Washington Capitals baseball cap pays homage to the Capital One Arena, which is located directly across the street.
