Week 11 - Rina Torchinsky

April 18, 2019 - The College Park Volunteer Fire Department is located on Baltimore Ave.,  across the street from the University of Maryland. The station primarily serves the surrounding Prince George's County City.

April 18, 2019 - Just inside the garage, there's a couch where some volunteers like to relax when they're waiting on getting a call. 
April 18, 2019 - Firefighters quickly put on their jackets before heading out on calls. The rack is located parallel to the trucks and just behind the couch.
April 18, 2019 - Volunteers use this room to watch movies when they are not on a call. The station's dog, Bandit, lives in a crate just behind the rear couch.
April 18, 2019 -  John Datillio, a junior fire protection technology student at North Shore Community College, stands at the kitchen island over a bowl of chopped green peppers and onions.  The volunteers feasted on "Brats and Tots" Thursday night.
April 18, 2019 - The firefighters snack on Doritos and chat in the kitchen before dinner. 

April 18, 2019 - Timothy McDonald, a sophomore at the University of Maryland, squeezes lighter fluid over charcoal on the grill just in front of the trucks outside the garage. McDonald, along with Peter Johnson, a fire protection graduate, is preparing the grill for Bratwurst. 
April 18, 2019 - Datillio and Chase Rouse, a sophomore physics major, set up the ladder to reach the roof. The duo had to climb to the roof retrieve a ball that they were using to play with Bandit.

On Sunday afternoon sorority Alpha Omicron Pi and Fraternity Zeta Psi threw an event called "Play Outside With AOII and Zeta Psi" to raise money for their respective philanthropies. They raised a total of $5,000.  Students play a game of catch in front of the chapel during the event.  Olivia Campbell, Elizabeth Roche, Ella Mitchell, and Caroline Fleetwood hold up their new shirts they received at the event Edible cookie dough was sold to help raise money for the philanthropies, and was offered in 8 different flavors. Students get BBQ, a food that was included in the $5 ticket to attend.  Members of Alpha Omicron Pi play corn hole, another activity that was set up at Sunday. Students play an intense game of tug-of-war, which was made tricky that day because of the wind Members of AOII begin to clean up the event at 4p.m., when the event ended

Week 11 - Colleen Neely

In the Catholic Church, Easter is the most important day of the year. The day celebrates the rise of Jesus Christ to life after enduring crucifixion on Good Friday to pay for the sins of humanity. Many parishes undergo days of preparation for this event. At the Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier (CCSFX) in Hunt Valley, MD, volunteers spend days preparing the church for the Easter Sunday Masses. The baptismal font at the front of the church is adorned with flowers to remind Catholics of the washing away of sins that also occurs at baptism. In the Catholic Church, parents choose baptism for their children and it is a sacrament typically performed during infancy. As is proclaimed by the banner, Jesus Christ rises on Easter Sunday. This event is considered proof that God will triumph over Satan, that good will always overcome evil.
