Week 11 - Joe Lotano

Freshman journalism major J.T. Hoagland screams in fear for
the impending news quiz in his journalism class.

This picture was sort of an accident as I was just testing out sport mode, however the aperture of the picture focused in on J.T. pretty well and made the photo pop. The setting was actually of him screaming, so the raw emotion of the photo was also really cool.

After a tough GVPT 170 midterm, freshman journalism major Connor Leff
chows down on a Chick-fil-A deluxe sandwich.

Another example of how far the F-Stop setting can go in sculpting amazing pictures, the absolute focus on Connor while he is eating is probably one of my favorite pictures.

Kendall Wong, a junior computer science major, drives through the lane,
finishing with his left in a competitive pick-up basketball game.

Junior computer science major Eric Wang catches the defense off-guard
with his signature pull-up mid-range jump shot.

These two pictures were a part of my composition assignment. I fully worked in sport mode and had a great time catching in-game action from the sidelines. Adjusting the settings to the lighting and flow of the game was tough, but these two photos caught the moments of the game perfectly.

Junior journalism major Joe Ilardi and senior journalism major Danielle Stein
are all smiles ahead of their anchor duties for Monday's Left Bench TV taping.

The composition and lighting of this photo makes it probably my favorite one I've taken this semester. The photo is clear and captures perfect smiles from the two anchors.

Freshman journalism major Spencer Lockhart looks at the Washington Post website
ahead of a critical news quiz for his journalism class.

The natural sunlight that comes into the main area of Knight Hall makes for some great photo opportunities, and Spencer was sitting in the perfect spot. The lighting was streaky sort of, which made for an even greater effect in my opinion.

Fortnite is a college staple, and freshman business major Ben Murphy finds
time in his schedule to secure a victory on the popular game.

Ben and his roommate had really cool lights in their room, which gave the photo a unique tint of red to compliment the lighting. The aperture of the photo was sharp as well, singling in on Ben's emotion while playing the video game.

Maryland pitcher Tuck Tucker winds up and throws the pitch,
hoping to stifle William & Mary's hot start to the game.

This was my first exposure to photographing a baseball game, which will be my final project. It was really fun and I'm excited to do it again, but I would definitely like to have a camera that can zoom in more on the player's emotions. Regardless, this sport mode sequence makes these three photos very interesting.
