Week 10- Rina Torchinsky

Rishi Jain, a graduate student studying information management, is covered in colors at the Hindu Student Council Holi festival. The festival celebrates the beginning of Spring and emphasizes love and relationships.

Paras Mehndiratta, 24, throws up a peace sign at Holi 2019. Though he's not a student at the University of Maryland, he came to the College Park event to celebrate Holi.

It didn't take long for Menhdiratta to find himself in the center of a mosh pit, rocking creative dance moves and jamming to the music.


Aravind Jembu Rajkumar, a graduate student in human-computer interaction pulls his hair back at Holi.

Jiger Jain, a graduate student studying cybersecurity, dumps a neon color packet on a friend's head. At the festival, friends douse each other in colorful powder.

Simran Kishore, a junior early childhood and special education major, is the president of the Hindu Students Council. She said that, while Holi was at the end of March, she rescheduled so the event could embody Spring weather. 

Nithish Kumar, a graduate student studying robotics, dances with a friend in the center of the circle. His hat is covered in colors, but Kishore said that the colors come off easily, not without a little of scrubbing.  

Anaida Gomes, a senior public health science major, holds a blue dye packet and fixes her newly colorful hair at Holi.
