Week 6 - Rina Torchinsky

Milkboy ArtHouse celebrated International Women's Day Friday with a MilkGirl concert featuring an all-female lineup. Sahara Mokhtari, junior communications major, headlined the event and sand original songs.

Kailasa Aqeel, lead singer of Black Folks Don't Swim?, engaged the crowd with her distinct dance moves. Black Folks Don't Swim? is led by queer black women.

Aqeel holds a tambourine, as she leads the band with her voice at the International Women's Day concert. Before Milkboy invited female-led bands to the stage Friday, only 5 percent of bands that performed at Milkboy were led by females, according to Kristina London, marketing coordinator and super senior communications major.

Nalani & Sarina, a rock duo from New Jersey, enthrall the crowd with their intense music. The musicians are identical twins.

Sarina sings and plays the keyboard during Friday's performance. The duo describes their music as "a blend of traditional soul rock and modern pop," according to their website.

Aqeel grips the microphone before singing Friday,.Black Folks Don't Swim?'s repertoire includes original songs like "Cancel my Subscription," which is about cutting off bad relationships with men.

Aqeel, lead vocalist in Black Folks Don't Swim?, extends her arm to play the tambourine at the International Women's Day Concert. The musicians assembled the D.C.-based band in 2017.

Sarina points toward the crowd, as the duo keeps the crowd engaged. Before performing, the twins invited the crowd to come closer.
