Week 6- Cami Gore

March 7, 2019- Sophomore undergraudaute dance major Julia Smith rehearses at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.

March 7, 2019- Lauren Waugh (back) and Julia Smith (front) practice Smith's piece titled "Third Person." The piece will appear in the Umoves Undergraduate Dance Concert opening on May 10, 2019.

March 7, 2019- Julia Smith (foreground) and Lauren Waugh (background) perform the same turning motion. The dancers work hard in rehearsal to try to make their movement more uniform. 

March 7, 2019- 20 year old Julia Smith presses into a one-handed backwards plank position. Her piece is strenuous and she said that she must warm up well before rehearsals in order to not hurt herself in movements like this. 

March 7, 2019- Smith's piece includes a lot of floor work. Moving on and off the floor can sometimes leave Smith and her dancers feeling exhausted as the piece progresses. 

March 7, 2019- Smith kneels to the ground as the music fades. Her piece focuses on how she misses dancing specifically to music. In the dance major, students are typically taught movement phrases to counts and music is added later. Smith grew up learning the opposite order. 

March 7, 2019- Waugh stays warm by doing aerobic stretches and strengthening exercises during breaks in rehearsal. Waugh was chosen to perform in Smith's piece by an audition.

March 6, 2019- Smith converses with her mentor, Sara Pearson. Pearson  is an associate professor for undergraduate and graduate dance students.
